Doug was a professional fishing guide in Minnesota
for eight years (1999 through 2007). While still relatively new to Norfork Lake's fishing
scene, Doug has been pattern fishing the lake on nearly a daily basis since late 2007.
Norfork Lake has a long history of being an Ozarks
fishing destination. While widely noted for its striper fishing, Norfork also has superb
fishing for many other sportfish species.
Springtime is when the white bass run, and when
large and smallmouth bass move shallow for their annual spawning rituals. Spring crappie
fishing can be some of the best around.
Though Norfork sports a large population of
nice-sized walleye, they can be elusive. However, spring brings then shallow for their
spawn as well, and they can be caught when fishing the right locations.
Summer brings on a deeper fishing pattern for all
sportfish species. You will find many of the Norfork fish of all species relating to
deeper points and channels. They also are attracted to the many brush piles and fish
attractors planted around the lake. Attractor locations are noted on the shoreline by blue
and white signs posted on trees above attractors and brush piles.
With the arrival of fall the fish once again become
more active. They begin to feed for the winter by following Norfork's large schools of
shad around the lake. Knowing baitfish locations is the key to catching fish this time of
year.
